IPS manufactured and delivered special modular MPPT* solar charge controllers S-Force, which will be used for securing the electrical energy in the objects inhabited by the Bulgarian Antarctic expedition.
A 4 kWp string of solar panels is connected to each of the S-Force systems. The task of the controllers is to gain the maximum amount of energy from each string. It is possible due to the innovative tracking algorithm developed by IPS, where the maximum power point tracking efficiency reaches 99.9%. The energy delivered from the solar panels is stored in batteries where it is available for further use. An intelligent microcomputer controlled system controls the charging processes according to the type and capacity of the battery. All functional parameters can be transmitted and monitored online via internet. The wide input voltage range (140 VDC ... 450 VDC) contributes to flexibility in the string configurations. All kind of solar panels can be switched on to the system.
Another significant advantage is the wide temperature range of operation of S-Force, from -40 °C to +70 °C.
The 19th Bulgarian Antarctic expedition consists of 7 scientists. They participate in joint projects with other countries for investigating the causes of the global warming.
